The Parliament has passed the Juvenile Justice Amendment bill, 2021. Explain the features of the amendment along with the original act.

Introduction:

The Juvenile Justice Amendment bill, 2021 has been passed by the parliament to strengthen the protection of Children. The act is in line with the Hague convention 1993 along with other major conventions such as UN convention on child rights, UN rules for Juvenile justice administration.

This Act is called the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. It extends to the whole of India. Provisions of the Act shall apply to all matters concerning children in need of care and protection and children in conflict with law, including —

(i) apprehension, detention, prosecution, penalty or imprisonment, rehabilitation and social re-integration of children in conflict with law;

(ii) procedures and decisions or orders relating to rehabilitation, adoption, re-integration, and restoration of children in need of care and protection.

Juvenile protection is an important aspect in the human rights. Taking the juveniles in right direction and making their future bright is the responsibility of the government. If not taken proper care there are chances of them becoming repeat offenders in their future years.Care and protection is everyone’s right irrespective of their backgrounds and the undesirable instances.
