- Indore and Surat, in the category of cities with more than one lakh inhabitants, were named the nation’s cleanest cities by the Cleanliness Survey-2023.
- This award has been given to Indore for the seventh time in a row.
- In the same category, Navi Mumbai came in third.
- The ‘Swachh Survekshan -2023 awards’ were presented by President Droupadi Murmu at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
- In the category of cities with fewer than one lakh residents, Sasvad in Maharashtra, Patan in Chhattisgarh, and Lonavala in Maharashtra took the top three spots for cleanest cities.
- Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh were ranked first, second, and third in the state category, respectively, for cleanliness.
- Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi and Prayagraj were named the Cleanest Ganga Towns.
About Swachh Survekshan Awards
- It is one of the largest survey of urban cleanliness and sanitation in the world and is being carried out since 2016.
- It has been crucial in encouraging towns and cities to compete in a healthy way in order to provide better services to their residents and make their cities cleaner.
- It is carried out under the auspices of the Urban Swachh Bharat Mission.
- Swachh Survekshan’s main objective is to raise public awareness of the value of collaboration among all societal segments and to promote widespread citizen participation in the process of improving towns and cities as places to live.
