About the Recognition and Evaluation:

  • Srinagar is under consideration by the World Crafts Council International (WCCI) to be designated as the World Craft City (WCC) from India.
  • The WCCI, headquartered in Kuwait, is dedicated to identifying and preserving traditional crafts worldwide.
  • A three-member team from the WCCI is currently in Srinagar, assessing its craft clusters, artisanal processes, and the status of local artisans.
About Srinagar as a part of UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN):

  • Designation: Srinagar recognized as a Creative City for Crafts and Folk Arts.
  • Significance: Second city in India after Jaipur in this category.
