Sharda Peeth
News: As a significant step towards the discovery of Sharda-civilization and the promotion of Sharda-script, the Indian government will strive to construct a Kartrapur-style corridor to Sharda Peeth, according to the Home Minister, who also dedicated the Mata Sharda Devi Temple to Goddess Sharda Devi.
The government will proceed with the opening of Sharda Peeth along the lines of the Kartarpur corridor, according to the Union Home Minister.
An old educational institution and Hindu temple, Sharda Peeth is now deserted.
It is situated in the Sharda village, in the Mount Harmukh valley, alongside the Neelam River, in the Azad Kashmir region ruled by Pakistan. The distance between it and the Line of Control is 16 miles.
As a Center of Learning: From the sixth to the twelfth centuries CE, it was one of the leading institutions of higher education, hosting researchers like Kalhana, Adi Shankara, and Vairotsana.
It is also said to be where Paṇini and Hemachandra completed and stored their writings on Sanskrit grammar.
Religious significance: Sharda is the most revered religious place for Kashmiri Pandits. They believe that Sharada in Kashmir is a tripartite embodiment of the goddess Shakti: Sharada (goddess of learning), Saraswati (goddess of knowledge), and Vagdevi (goddess of speech).
It is one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peethas throughout South Asia that commemorate the location of fallen body parts of the Hindu deity Sati.
