Why in the news?
SEMICON India 2024, featuring over 250 companies from 24 countries, will highlight India’s semiconductor potential and host discussions on industry best practices at Bharat Mandapam.
Highlights of the SEMICON India 2024 :
- Event Details:
○ SEMICON India 2024 will take place from September 11-13, 2024.
○ Over 250 companies from 24 countries will participate.
- Strategic Importance:
○ Sh. Akash Tripathi, CEO of the Indian Semiconductor Mission, emphasised the event’s strategic role in connecting major semiconductor supply chain players. ○ The event aims to highlight India’s semiconductor potential.
- Additional Highlights:
○ SEMI President and CEO Sh. Ajit Manocha will underscore India’s semiconductor capabilities.
○ A Semiconductor Executives’ Summit will be held on September 10, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam to discuss best practices and industry trends.
About the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM):
- Launch and Funding: Established in 2021 with a financial outlay of ₹76,000 crore under the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY).
- Objectives: Develop sustainable semiconductor and display ecosystems, provide financial support for semiconductor and display manufacturing, and design ecosystems.
- Components:
○ Semiconductor Fabs Scheme: Offers fiscal support for establishing semiconductor wafer fabrication facilities.
○ Display Fabs Scheme: Provides fiscal support for setting up TFT LCD/AMOLED display fabrication facilities.
○ Compound Semiconductors/Sensors/ATMP Scheme: Offers 30% fiscal support for setting up facilities for compound semiconductors, sensors, and ATMP/OSAT.
○ Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme: Provides financial incentives and design infrastructure support for ICs, chipsets, SoCs, and semiconductor-linked design.
