Regional Rapid Transit System
News: PM Narendra Modi to launch country’s first Regional Rapid Transit System.
- The First Regional Rapid Transit System(RRTS) will be launched from Sahibabad, Uttar Pradesh.
- A Priority section of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor will be inaugurated connecting Sahibabad to ‘Duhai Depot’.
- The Prime Minister will also inaugurate Two Stretches of East-West corridor of Bengaluru Metro.
Background
- Established in 2005, the Planning Commission formed a Task Force led by the MoUD Secretary. Its main aim was to create a comprehensive multi-modal transit system for Delhi NCR, integrated into the NCR 2032 Transport Plan.
- Out of Eight , Three corridors received priority: Delhi-Meerut, Delhi-Panipat, and Delhi-Alwar.
Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS)
- The RRTS is a new rail-based, semi-high-speed, high-frequency commuter transit system.
- RRTS trains in India will be called ‘Namo Bharat’.
- The RAPIDX trains will operate at a speed of 160 Kmph (Designed for 180 kmph) with a 15-minute frequency.
- The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) spearheads the RRTS, a collaborative venture between the Central government and the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
- One coach is exclusively reserved for women travellers.
- QR tickets and National Common Mobility Card will be used for travel.
- The RapidX security system features Artificial intelligence, which eliminates the chance of human error by automatically detecting restricted items and independently halting the conveyor belt.
- Service starts daily at 6 AM and runs up to 11 PM.
- A Premium coach in each RAPIDX train offers additional features like reclining seats, coat hooks, magazine holders, and footrests.
- Each RAPIDX train consists of six coaches, accommodating around 1,700 passengers.
- Commuter-centric amenities include 2×2 transverse seating, luggage racks, CCTV cameras, mobile charging, and ambient lighting.
