Ramanujacharya
News: Ramanujacharya, a revered Vedic philosopher and social reformer, was born in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, in 1017.
He is recognised for his promotion of the Bhakti movement, which influenced other Bhakti schools of thought, and for his advocacy of social equality and justice, which was groundbreaking for his day.
He played a key role in revitalising the non-dualism of the qualified entire Vishishtadvaita subschool of Vedanta philosophy.
Ramanujacharya composed a number of commentaries on Vedic texts, including the Bhagavad-Gita and the Vedanta Sutras, in addition to the nine books known as the navaratnas.
His teachings placed a strong emphasis on the importance of living in peace with the environment and training others to do the same.
He supported the idea of “vasudhaiva kutumbakam,” which means “all the universe is one family.”
Ramanujacharya advocated for the weaker members of society, denounced them, and urged the royal courts to treat them equally.
With his conviction that all people are created equal, regardless of nationality, gender, race, caste, or religion, he liberated millions from social, cultural, gender, educational, and economic oppression.
The 213-foot-tall statue of Ramanujacharya in Hyderabad is referred to as the Statue of Equality because of his efforts to advance social equality.
