- A detailed replica of Raigad Fort was recently displayed as the backdrop for the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas parade in Kevadiya, paying tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s exceptional military prowess.
- Raigad Fort, situated in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, is surrounded by deep valleys shaped by the Kal and Gandhari rivers and is often called the “Gibraltar of the East” by British historian Grant Duff.
Historical Significance and Coronation of Shivaji Maharaj
- Originally captured by Maratha forces in 1653, Raigad Fort was rebuilt by Hiroji Indulkar, becoming the site of Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation in 1674, where he formally assumed the title of “Chhatrapati.”
- As Shivaji Maharaj’s second capital, Raigad served as a key administrative and strategic centre, supporting the growth and influence of the Maratha Kingdom across the region.
Architectural Marvels and UNESCO Nomination:
