About Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA):

- Scope: Integrates Pacific Islands, Southeast Asia, and Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
- Technology: Uses satellite data for near-real-time maritime information.
- Focus: Monitoring “dark shipping,” enhancing maritime oversight in the Indo-Pacific.
- Objective: Improve security and stability, monitor maritime activities, and ensure safety of key sea lanes.
Expansion of IPMDA:
- The Quad (Australia, India, Japan, US) plans to extend the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) into the Indian Ocean Region.
- The IPMDA aims to enhance maritime security, freedom of navigation, and commerce.
