About Indo-Pacific Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA):

  • Technology: Uses satellite data for near-real-time maritime information.
  • Focus: Monitoring “dark shipping,” enhancing maritime oversight in the Indo-Pacific.
  • Objective: Improve security and stability, monitor maritime activities, and ensure safety of key sea lanes.

Expansion of IPMDA:

  • The Quad (Australia, India, Japan, US) plans to extend the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA) into the Indian Ocean Region.
  • The IPMDA aims to enhance maritime security, freedom of navigation, and commerce.
About QUAD-Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD):

  • Members: USA, India, Australia, Japan.
  • Objectives: Promote a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
  • Activities: Meetings, summits, information exchanges, military drills.
  • Formation: Established in 2007, inspired by Exercise Malabar and 2004 tsunami response.
