PROPOSED CHANGES BY CBSE FOR CLASS 10 AND 12
Why in the News?
- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) plans to introduce a credit system to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
- This system aims to establish academic equivalence between vocational and general education, facilitating mobility between the two systems.

Proposed Changes by the CBSE Subcommittee:
- The proposed changes involve adding multidisciplinary and vocational courses to the existing curriculum.
- For Classes 9 and 10, students must complete 10 subjects, including three languages and seven core subjects.
- For Classes 11 and 12, students must study six subjects, consisting of two languages and four subjects with an optional fifth.
Exam Structure Under the New System
- Exams will be conducted independently of credits earned.
- Class 10 exams will include external exams for three languages, math, social science, science, and environmental education.
- Class 12 students will choose subjects from four groups, with external exams for languages and certain subjects.
- Grades will still be awarded based on exam performance, maintaining the existing grading system.
