About Project Tiger :
- Objectives:
- Ensure a viable tiger population in India for scientific, economic, aesthetic, cultural, and ecological values.
- Safeguard biologically significant areas as a national heritage for public benefit, education, and enjoyment.
- Scheme Type: Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
- Implementing Authority: National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA)
About NTCA
Establishment: · Established in 2005, headquartered in New Delhi. · Formed based on recommendations from the Tiger Task Force and operates under the Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972. Membership: · Headed by the Union Minister of MoEFCC (Chairperson) and the Minister of State in MoEFCC (Vice-Chairperson). · Comprises 3 MPs and the Secretary of MoEFCC. NTCA’s Role: · Supervisory and coordination responsibilities, including approval of Tiger Conservation Plans by State Governments. |
