President’s Colours Award: India’s Highest Military Honour
- The President’s Colours Award, also known as Rashtrapati ka Nishaan, is India’s highest recognition for military units, training establishments, or state/UT police forces.
- It symbolizes exceptional service and dedication to the nation in both peacetime and wartime.
Award Features and Recent Recognition:
- The award consists of a special flag, called the Nishaan, which includes the insignia, motto, and achievements of the recipient.
- The Nishaan, with a golden border, is carried with pride during ceremonial parades and anniversaries.
- Recently, the Third Battalion of the Naga Regiment was presented the President’s Colours by the Chief of Army Staff, recognizing their significant contribution to national security.
About President’s Colours Award:
- Highest honour for military units, training establishments, or state/UT police forces in India.
- Recognizes exceptional service to the nation in peace and war.
- Known as “Rashtrapati ka Nishan” in Hindi.
History:
- Began during colonial rule; replaced King’s Colour post-independence.
- On November 23, 1950, ‘King’s Colour’ was replaced by ‘President’s Colours’.
- The Indian Navy was the first to receive it on May 27, 1951, from Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
