Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Vikas Yojna (PMJVM) : Update

News: According to a declaration made in Lok Sabha, the government is funding each Van Dhan Vikas Kendra (VDVK) with 15 lakh rupees as part of the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Vikas Yojna. (PMJVM).

In 2018, the Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Vikas Yojna was introduced.

By adding value to tribal goods, it aims to increase tribal incomes.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs will act as the Nodal Department for the implementation of the plan.

The Nodal Agency at the National Level will be Tribal Co-Operative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED).

TRIFED:

It was founded in 1987 by the Government of India as a National Level Cooperative Body under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984.

The Indian Ministry of Welfare, at the time, had administrative authority over it.

TRIFED’s goal is the socioeconomic advancement of the nation’s indigenous people through the commercialization of indigenous goods.

The State Nodal Agency for MFPs and the District collectors are expected to be key players in the implementation of the plan at the local level.

Locally, it is suggested that the Kendras be run by a Managing Committee (an SHG) made up of members of the cluster’s Van Dhan SHGs.

A normal Van Dhan Vikas Kendra consists of 10 tribal Van Dhan Vikas Self Help Groups (SHG), with each SHG having up to 30 MFP gatherers or tribal artisans, or approximately 300 beneficiaries.
