• On the 22nd of this month, President Droupadi Murmu will present nineteen exceptional children with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, 2024 in New Delhi;
• Nineteen children, chosen from all over the nation, will receive the award in recognition of their extraordinary accomplishments in the areas of sports, social service, innovation, bravery, and art and culture;
• The awardees include nine boys and ten girls from 18 states and union territories, as well as two Aspirational Districts.

• About:
  • Every year, the government holds the esteemed Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to honor children with extraordinary talent who have made notable contributions to the fields of sports, social service, science and technology, the environment, bravery, and other areas;
  • The scheme PMRBP is implemented year by Ministry of Women & Child Development;
• Nature of the awards:
  • Bal Shakti Puraskar: To be awarded as a token of appreciation to kids who have demonstrated extraordinary talent and accomplishment in the areas of bravery, academics, athletics, arts and culture, and social service;
  • Bal Kalyan Puraskar:
    • Individual: Given to people who, for at least seven years, have distinguished themselves in the fields of child development, child protection, and child welfare in service to children;
    • Institutions: To establishments that, in any area of child welfare, have performed exemplary work for the benefit of children.
  • Selection: The final names of the recipients will be decided by a National Selection Committee, which will be chaired by a minister or minister of state from the Women and Child Development Ministry;
  • Presentation of the award:
    • Every year in January, there is a special ceremony where the President presents these Awards;
    • The prizes include a certificate, a medal, and a cash prize of one lakh rupees.
  • Eligibility criteria of PMRBP:

This award is open to children between the ages of five and eighteen who have excelled in any area, including academics, the arts, culture, sports, and more;

Excellence in any of the following fields (achievements benefiting society will be encouraged):

• • Innovation: Scientific and social science innovations could be taken into consideration. Initiatives aimed at positively influencing human lives, ecology, and environment may be taken into consideration;
  • Social Service: It is important to promote leadership qualities that can inspire and unite people in the fight against social ills like child marriage, sexual abuse, alcoholism, and other issues;
  • Academic: It is recommended to support consistent accomplishments at both national and international levels;
  • Sports: It is encouraged to see consistent success at the national and international levels;
  • Art & Culture: Regular accomplishments in painting, dance, music (vocal & instrumental), art, or any other art/culture form at the national and international levels.
  • Courage: Altruistic service even when it puts one’s own life in danger and/or an extraordinary display of bravery and daring in the face of unfavorable natural or man-made circumstances; It can also be the extraordinary display of mental toughness, wit, and composure in the face of grave risk to oneself and society.
