Why in the news?

POCSO case against BSY-Karnataka former chief minister .The magistrate court in Bengaluru ordered that the case be forwarded to Criminal Investigation Department .

About POCSO ACT:

  • In order to shield minors under

the age of 18 from crimes

including sexual harassment, sexual assault, and child

pornography, the Parliament

passed the POCSO Act in 2012.

  • The Protection of Children

from Sexual Offenses Act is its full name.Under the Ministry of

Women and Child Development, the Act was passed in 2012.

Key features of Act:

  • This act defines sexual abuse in a variety of ways, not only in relation to harassment, pornography, and penetrative and non-penetrative offenses.
  • If the attacker is a family member, friend, teacher, or other person in a position of authority, and the child has a mental illness, these crimes would be deemed “aggravated.”
