PM to attend Quad summit, address Indian diaspora in US
Why in the News?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the US from September 21 to 23, 2024.
He will attend the fourth Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, hosted by US President Joe Biden.
Modi will also address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the UNGA in New York on September 23.
Key Events and Meetings
At the Quad Summit, leaders will review the progress of the Quad and set the agenda for assisting Indo-Pacific countries with development goals.
Modi will address the Indian diaspora and meet with CEOs of US-based companies to strengthen collaborations in AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology.
Bilateral meetings with world leaders are planned on the sidelines of the UNGA Summit.
US-India Dialogues
Ahead of the visit, Indian and American officials held the US-India 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue in Delhi, discussing Indo-Pacific, Ukraine, and Gaza issues.
Discussions included defence cooperation, clean energy, and industrial coordination, with the US reiterating its commitment to enhancing partnerships.
About the Summit of the Future:
A high-level event to unite global leaders and forge consensus on addressing present and future challenges.
It aims to rebuild trust in international cooperation and find solutions to emerging issues.
The event involves UN Member States, NGOs, CSOs, academia, and the private sector under the theme “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow.”
It seeks to deliver the “Pact for the Future,” focused on the UN Charter, multilateralism, and solving global challenges, by September 2024.
