“PM MODI’S FIRST DECISION: ₹20,000 CRORE TO 93 MILLION FARMERS”
Why in the news?
- PM Narendra Modi’s first decision after taking office for the third term: authorizing the release of ₹20,000 crore to 93 million farmers under the PM-Kisan scheme.
- The scheme has so far transferred over ₹3 trillion to farmers’ bank accounts since its launch in February 2019.
About Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana:
- PM-KISAN: Central-Sector scheme with 100% funding from the Government of India.
- Objective: Supplement financial needs of farmers for crop health and yields.
- Operational since 1.12.2018.
- Provides ₹6,000/year in three equal installments to land-holding farmer families.
- Family definition: husband, wife, and minor children.
- State Governments/UT administrations identify eligible farmer families.

About PM KISAN App:
● Newly launched application with face authentication feature. ● Developed by the National Informatics Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. ● Farmers can complete e-KYC remotely by scanning their face. ● Farmers can view application status, update Aadhaar cards, and check credit history.
