About Successful Test of Agni-5 with MIRV Technology:
- India celebrates successful test-firing of Agni-5 ballistic missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology.
- Prime Minister of India hails DRDO’s achievement under Mission Divyastra, enhancing India’s strike capability significantly.
- MIRV technology enables a single missile to carry multiple warheads, allowing for simultaneous strikes on different targets.
About Agni-V ballistic missile:
● Agni-V: India’s most advanced surface-to-surface ballistic missile. ● Three-stage, solid fuel, 17-metre tall. ● Capable of carrying a 1.5-tonne nuclear warhead. ● Fire and forget technology. ● Developed under IGMDP. About IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Program): ● Conceived by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to achieve self-sufficiency in missile technology. ● Approved by the Government of India in 1983; completed in March 2012. ● Developed 5 missiles: o Prithvi: Short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile. o Agni: Ballistic missiles with varying ranges (Agni 1, 2, 3, 4, 5). o Trishul: Short-range, low-level surface-to-air missile. o Nag: Third-generation anti-tank missile. o Akash: Medium-range surface-to-air missile. |
