About the Global Heat Exposure:
- Over 70% of global workers are exposed to excessive heat due to rising temperatures, marking a 34.7% increase since 2000.
- In hot regions like India, heavy manual labourers face risks of chronic kidney disease and other health issues.
About International Labour Organisation (ILO):
- Established in 1919 by the Treaty of Versailles as an affiliated agency of the League of Nations (LoN).
- Became the first specialised agency of the UN in 1946.

What is Heat Stress ?
- Heat stress occurs when the body is exposed to temperatures exceeding its tolerance level.
- Common in temperatures above 35°C, especially in high humidity.
- Reduces workers’ physical functions, work capacity, and productivity.
- Can lead to heat-related illnesses like heat stroke and exhaustion.
- According to the World Health Organisation climate change, expected to cause 38,000 extra deaths annually worldwide from 2030 to 2050.
