Provisions Regarding Deputy Speaker

Election:

  • Governed by Rule 8 of Lok Sabha’s Rules of Procedure and Conduct.

Time Frame:

  • Typically elected in the second session unless unavoidable delays occur.

Term of Office and Removal:

  • Serves for the House’s duration (5 years).
  • Vacates office if ceasing to be a member, resigning, or removed by a resolution with 14 days’ notice.

Position:

  • Under Article 95, performs Speaker’s duties when vacant or absent.
