Omorgus Khandesh : New Beetle Species
News: A new species of beetle was found by a researcher at the Pune-based Western Regional Centre (WRC) of the Zoological Survey of India.
- Necrophagous in nature, it is also known as the keratin beetle.
- A member of the Trogidae family is this species. There are currently a total of 14 extant species of this family in India as a result of the addition of this new species.
- Due to their propensity to bury their bodies in the ground and hide, these species of beetles is commonly referred to as the “hide beetles.”
- It is mostly connected to the nests or burrows of birds and mammals.
- Necrophagous arthropods are those that feed exclusively on the remains of the deceased.
