About Challenging Delivery Mission:

  • Officials are preparing to transport electronic voting machines (EVMs) to Malliamman Durgham, a remote village in Erode district, Tamil Nadu.
  • The village, nestled in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, lacks motorable roads, making delivery via rugged terrain a significant challenge.
  • With only a pickup van available from Kadambur, officials face a two-hour journey to reach the village, navigating steep gradients and rough pathways.
About Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve:

  • Location: Situated in Erode District, Tamil Nadu, at the convergence of Eastern and Western Ghats within Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.
  • Area: Shares boundaries with Mudumalai, Bandipur, and BR Tiger Reserves, collectively hosting over 280 tigers.
  • Terrain: Hilly and undulated, ranging from 750m to 1649 m in altitude.
  • Vegetation: Encompasses southern tropical dry thorn forests, mixed deciduous forests, semi-evergreen forests, and Riparian forests.
  • Flora: Includes species like Albizia amara, Chloroxylon swietenia, Neem, Tamarind, Sandalwood, and Zizyphus, among others.
  • Fauna: Diverse wildlife such as Elephants, Tigers, Panthers, Sloth bears, Gaurs, Black Bucks, Spotted deer, and various primate species like Nilgiri langurs and Bonnet macaques.
