About Sonai Rupai Wildlife Sanctuary:

  • Location: Located in Assam, India, covering 175 km2 along the foothills of the Great Himalayan Range.
  • Establishment: Declared a sanctuary in 1998, situated 52 km from Tezpur and 193 km from Guwahati.
  • Rivers: Four rivers flow through: Gabharu, Gelgeli, Sonai, and Rupai.
  • Mammals: Presence of tigers, lesser cats, elephants, gaurs, wild boars, pygmy hogs, swamp deer, and barking deer.
  • Birds: Habitat for white-winged wood ducks, hornbills, pelicans, and various migratory bird species.
