The 200th anniversary of Akali Baba Phula Singh’s martyrdom, the 300th anniversary of Sardar Jassa Singh Ramgarh’s birth, and the 100th anniversary of the Jaito front are all commemorated on this year’s Nanakshahi calendar.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) introduced the Nanakshahi Sammat 555 calendar in 2003.
To commemorate the 500th anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth, the city was given his name.
Sikhism makes use of a tropical solar calendar.
The birth of Guru Nanak Dev, which corresponds to the year 1469 CE, serves as the Nanakshahi calendar’s reference epoch.
It is based on the “Barah Maha” (Twelve Months), a song written by the Sikh gurus to depict the alterations in the natural world expressed in the twelve-month yearly cycle.
Chet is the first month of the year, with 1 Chet being equivalent to 14 March.
