Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM)

About:

  • Centrally Sponsored Programme launched by the Ministry of Rural Development in 2011.
  • Aims to eliminate rural poverty through multiple livelihoods and improved financial access.
  • Targets rural poor households across the country.

Functioning:

  • Works with community institutions and professionals in the spirit of self-help.
  • Mobilizes rural households into Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
  • Organizes one-woman member from each rural poor household into SHGs.
  • Provides training and capacity building to SHG members.
  • Facilitates access to financial resources from their own institutions and banks.

Sub Programs:

  1. Mahila Kisan Shashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP): Promotes agro-ecological practices to increase women’s income and reduce costs/risks.
  2. Start-Up Village Entrepreneurship Programme (SVEP): Supports rural entrepreneurs to set up local enterprises.
  3. Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY): Provides affordable rural transport services connecting remote villages.
  4. Deendayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY): Builds placement-linked skills for rural youth in higher-wage sectors.
  5. Rural Self Employment Institutes (RSETIs): Partners with banks and state governments to skill rural youth for self-employment.

DAY-NRLM enabled rural families to access essential services like education and healthcare. Improved food security, school enrollment, women’s access to land, and addressed gender issues like dowry, child marriage, and discrimination against girls.
