Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs organized 6th Anniversary to commemorate the launch of the 3 Urban Transformation Missions. Discuss about the progress of these missions and comment on the same.
Introduction:
The three Urban transformation missions which completed 6 years were:
1) PMAY-U: Pradhan Mantri Awaz Yojana-Urban
2) SCM- Smart Cities Mission
3) AMRUT- Atal Mission for Urban Rejuvenation and Transformation.
Body:
PMAY-U:
- It is a scheme that provides housing for middle and low income groups ensuring pucca house to all by 2022.
- Around 1 crore houses have been already sanctioned under the scheme.
- Interest subsidy on loans have been provided for Middle income groups having less than 18 lakhs income per annum.
SCM:
- This scheme ensures infusion of technology to cities and aims to promote sustainable development, core infrastructure and cleanliness by applying smart solutions.
- Various cities have been identified and the work related to it has been started.
AMRUT:
- 500 cities have been selected under this scheme and aims to provide basic amenities such as water, sewage etc.
- 88 lakh streetlights have been replaced with LED lights
- More than 1 crore household water taps have been provided
- 78 lakhs sewer connections are also provided.
Data matrity assessment framework, Smart cities awards 2020 were also launched.
Conclusion:
These schemes ensures that the urban areas are fit for living. It also provides houses and basic amenities for the livelihood of people. Standard of living will enhance. Since the scheme covers slum dwellers also, a lot of problems related to health and hygeine will minimize. These basic amenities should have been provided long back but due to various reasons governments could not provide it. Any such scheme can be considered to be successful on the grounds of ‘better late than never’.
