Ministry of Heavy Industries has launched six technology innovation platforms. Discuss briefly about these platforms and comment on their importance.

Introduction:

The ministry of heavy industries and Public Enterprises comes under Central government. It administers 48 Public Sector Enterprises. The key roles include capacity building, maintaining profitability, resource management and increasing competitiveness. Decisions are taken in a timely manner by the ministry in order to achieve these goals.

Body:

For global competitiveness of Indian heavy industries, the ministry has come up with the following platforms:

1) KITE(Knowledge Integration for Technology Empowerment)- It is developed by IIT. Aspects such as implementation of robotics, automation, virtual reality are the focus.
2) Drishti- It is developed by Central Manufacturing Technological Institute. Its key focus is improvements in machine tools sector
3) ASPIRE(Automotive Solutions Portal for Research & Education)- Developed by International centre for Automotive Technology. It focuses on the automotive technology as the name suggests.
4) Technology & Innovation platform- Developed by Hindustan Machine Tools in association with Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
5) SanRachna- Developed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. It emphasises on the power electronics along with the renewable energy resource usage.
6) TechNovvus- Developed by Automotive Research Association of India and will focus on the sustainability.

By launching these platforms it is evident that, the government is trying to make the industries more competitive. So it has devised a plan to achieve it by focusing on areas like Research and development, skill development, Knowledge base expansion & integration, self-reliance and improved communication channels.

Conclusion:

Indian heavy industries are being revamped amidst the losses faced by them. Therefore these platforms will help in boosting them. Most of the public sector enterprises are not competitive enough to face the private entities due to mismanagement at different levels. Thus helping them will see a positive growth of the economy and make them get out of the crisis.
