Allocation and Management Efforts:
- Ministry collaborates with Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) to allocate 19 mine voids to 13 thermal power plants for fly ash disposal.
- Develops a centralized portal managed by CMPDI to streamline allocation processes and ensure transparency.
About Fly Ash:
- Fly ash is residual ash from coal combustion in thermal power plants.
- It accompanies flue gases from coal burning and is collected via electrostatic precipitators.
- Composition varies based on coal type and may include pollutants like Beryllium, Arsenic, unburnt Carbon, Silicon Oxides, Dioxins, aluminium oxide, ferric oxide, calcium oxide.
- These components pose significant environmental risks as pollutants.
