According to the Registrar General of India’s (RGI) Sample Registration System (SRS) report, India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) decreased from 130 per 100,000 live births in 2014–16 to 113 per 100,000 live births in 2016–18.
The anticipated global MMR in 2020—down from 227 in 2015 and 339 in 2000—was 223 maternal deaths per 100 000 live births, a decrease of one-third (34.3%) over the course of the entire 20-year span.
In 2020, there were more than 10,000 maternal fatalities in three nations:
DR Congo: 22,000; India: 24, 000; Ethiopia: 10,000
