News: India will enter into a weaponry agreement with the US to purchase American weapons, such as Mark 54 anti-submarine torpedoes.
The main anti-submarine warfare weapon used by U.S. Navy surface ships, fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters is the Mark 54 Anti-Submarine Torpedo.
It was created in conjunction with the US Navy by Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems.
Before, it was known as the Lightweight Hybrid Torpedo. (LHT).
It is used in acoustic settings, deep waterways, and shallow waters.
It has the ability to locate, identify, and strike underwater targets.
The projectile is 2.71 metres long, 32.3 centimetres wide, and weighs 275.7 kilogrammes.
The weapon’s high-explosive warhead, which weights 43.9kg
It is propelled by an Otto II liquid fuel-burning rotary external combustion engine.
The torpedo’s propulsion mechanism enables it to cruise at a speed of 74.1 km/h.
The MK 54 torpedoes have processing systems that enable them to identify threats by spotting erroneous targets or countermeasures.
