  • In Gah, which is now Pakistan, Dr. Manmohan Singh was born. During the 1947 split, his family moved to India. He earned a degree in economics from Oxford. He was employed for the UN from 1966 to 1969.
  • Manmohan held various positions between the 1970s and 1980s, including Head of the Planning Commission, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, and Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India.
  • He experienced the 1991 economic crisis under Mr. Narasimha Rao. Mr. Singh made a number of adjustments while serving as prime minister. His ministry carried out the Right to Information Act, the National Rural Health Mission, and other laws.
  • The nuclear accord negotiated with the US is regarded as the most significant accomplishment of Mr. Singh’s. India agreed to submit its civil and military nuclear facilities to the IAEA as part of this agreement (International Atomic Energy Agency).
  • India was granted a waiver from the Nuclear Suppliers Group as a result. Following India’s first nuclear test in 1974, NSG held authority over the sale of nuclear weapons to that country. This made it impossible for India to obtain nuclear fuel.
  • India was able to overcome all the obstacles in the way of becoming a nuclear power thanks to the Civil Nuclear Agreement with the US.
