News: During his official visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave U.S. First Lady Jill Biden a 7.5-carat lab-grown diamond.

The diamond was created using a procedure that mimics how natural diamonds form deep inside the soil in a Surat plant in Gujarat.

India is the world’s top producer of lab-grown diamonds, with exports totaling more than $1.67 billion.

Lab-grown diamonds are a more cost-effective and environmentally responsible alternative to natural diamonds.

They cost around 20% less than their naturally occurring counterpart.

India produces around 25% of the world’s production of lab-grown diamonds using CVD technology, making it the industry leader.

India produces 5% of the total amount of LGD produced worldwide.
