Kappad and Chal Beaches Achieve Blue Flag Certification:

  • Kappad Beach in Kozhikode and Chal Beach in Kannur, Kerala, have received the prestigious Blue Flag certification from the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), based in Denmark.
  • This recognition reflects the beaches’ commitment to high environmental standards and sustainable management practices.

About the Blue Flag Certification:

  • Established in France in 1985, the Blue Flag program is one of the most esteemed global awards for beaches, marinas, and sustainable tourism boats.
  • The certification, which expanded outside Europe in 2001, is based on four core criteria:
  • Water quality
  • Environmental management
  • Environmental education
  • Safety
  • The mission of the Blue Flag certification is to encourage sustainability in the tourism sector through environmental protection, education, and sustainable development practices.
