Why in the News?

  • Prime Minister inaugurated two significant initiatives on November 15, celebrated as Jan Jatiya Gaurav Diwas.
  • The launch took place in Kunti, Jharkhand, and included the PM Janman scheme and Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra.

Tribes in India

PM Janman – Empowering Tribals

  • Objective – Aims to achieve social justice for tribal communities, addressing their unique needs and challenges.
  • Budget: The scheme boasts a substantial budget allocation of ₹24,000 crore, emphasizing the government’s commitment to tribal welfare.
  • Focus: It focuses on the protection and nurturing of tribes, including those residing in remote areas facing the risk of extinction.
  • Identified Tribal Communities: Government has identified 75 tribal communities and primitive tribes, totaling lakhs of people residing in over 22,000 villages.
  • Comprehensive Approach:

Takes a comprehensive approach to tribal welfare, considering factors such as

  • healthcare, education,
  • livelihood, and
  • cultural preservation.
  • Aligning with National Development Goals:

Aligns with the broader national goal of making India a developed nation by 2047, emphasizing the importance of tribal communities in this vision.

Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra:

  • The Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, a nationwide awareness drive, accompanies PM Janman.
  • Its purpose is to facilitate the widespread implementation of welfare schemes, with activities continuing until January 26 across the country.
