External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will arrive in Colombo for his first official visit to a neighboring country since the BJP-led NDA government assumed office in India.

- Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Ali Sabry confirmed the visit and mentioned that the progress of joint projects in sectors like renewable energy and connectivity will be reviewed.
- Agenda:The discussions will also include ways to expedite these projects and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s possible visit to Sri Lanka this year.
- Political Engagements: Jaishankar will meet with Sri Lankan leaders and politicians across various political parties.
- After Sri Lanka, Mr. Jaishankar will visit Mauritius.
- Previous Engagements:On June 10, Mr. Jaishankar met Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe in New Delhi to discuss the resumption of halted development projects initiated with Indian investments.
- Trincomalee Industrial Zone:Mr. Jaishankar highlighted plans for an industrial zone in Trincomalee, which aims to attract Indian and international investors.
- Joint Vision Statement:In July 2023, India and Sri Lanka released a joint vision statement emphasizing cooperation in developing the Trincomalee oil tank farms and transforming Trincomalee into a hub of industry, energy, and economic activity.
