About INS Imphal :
- Recognizes Manipur’s role in events like Anglo-Manipur War, Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s INA flag hoisting, and the Battle of Imphal during World War II.
- INS Imphal’s construction, from keel-laying in May 2017 to sea trials completion in six months, set a record for indigenous destroyers.
- Capable of independent offensive operations .
- Armed with BrahMos and Barak-8 missiles, 127mm main gun, AK-630 guns, etc
About Project 15 B :
· Initiated in January 2011, Project 15B aimed to develop advanced variants of Vishakhapatnam-class guided missile destroyers for the Indian Navy. · The project resulted in the construction of four stealth guided missile destroyers of the INS Visakhapatnam class. · INS Visakhapatnam, INS Mormugao, and INS Imphal have been commissioned, while INS Surat is currently under construction. · Project 15B is a follow on of Project 15A. · All ships are built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL) and designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau. · All Destroyers are equipped with Bhra-Mos Missile System. |
