About Quantum Technology:

  • Definition: Technology using quantum mechanics principles (entanglement, superposition).
  • Microscopic Particles: Based on behaviour of photons, electrons, atoms, unlike macroscopic objects.
  • Applications: Enhanced navigation, secure communications, accurate healthcare imaging, powerful quantum computing.
  • Global R&D: Ongoing in US, Canada, France, Finland, China, Austria.
About the National Quantum Mission in 2023:

  • Mission Approval: Union Cabinet approved NQM on April 19, 2023, with ₹6003.65 crore budget till 2030-31.

Objectives:

  • Develop 50-1000 qubit quantum computers in 8 years.
  • Establish secure quantum communications across India and internationally.
  • Develop sensitive magnetometers, atomic clocks, and quantum materials.

Implementation Strategy:

  • Establish four T-Hubs for focused research in quantum computing, communication, sensing, and materials.
  • Promote basic and applied research, R&D in specific quantum technology domains.
