Indian Space Policy 2023
News: The Indian Space Policy, 2023 was approved by the Union Cabinet in order to strengthen the Department of Space’s role, increase the number of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) missions, and increase engagement from academia, startups, and industry.
With ISRO concentrating on the research and development of cutting-edge space technology, the Indian Space Policy 2023 aims to institutionalise private sector involvement in the space sector.
The policy will permit the private sector to engage in full-cycle space activities, such as the construction of satellites, rockets, and launch vehicles, as well as the gathering and sharing of data.
The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (INSPAC), NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), and ISRO’s duties and responsibilities were also outlined in the Indian Space Policy-2023. (IN-SPACe).
The Indian Space Research Organisation and non-governmental organisations will communicate through the recently established INSPACe.
The policy also outlines the conditions under which the private sector may use ISRO services for a nominal fee and encourages them to contribute to the development of new infrastructure for the industry.
ISRO will concentrate its efforts on creating new technologies, new systems, and research and development instead of performing any operational and production work for the space industry.
The Department of Space’s public sector initiative NewSpace India Limited will take over the operational aspects of ISRO’s missions.
