Why in the news?

About Naga Insurgency:

  • Formation of NNC: Established in April 1946 for Nagas’ social and political upliftment.
  • Shillong Accord: Signed in 1975, aimed to resolve Naga issue within Indian Constitution; opposed by some NNC leaders.
  • NSCN Formation: NSCN formed in January 1980, led by Isak Swu and Muivah; split into NSCN (I-M) and NSCN (K).
  • Demands: NSCN-IM demands Greater Nagaland, separate flag, and constitution.
  • Naga Peace Accord: Negotiations ongoing since 1997; 2015 Framework Agreement signed for Naga issue resolution.
