About Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) Scheme

·   Launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation under the National Civil Aviation Policy 2016.

·    Operational for a 10-year period.

·    Objectives:

o    Enhance air connectivity to remote Indian regions.

o    Facilitate affordable air travel for the public.

o    Generate employment in the aviation sector.

·    Key Features:

o    Airlines capped airfares at Rs. 2,500 per flight hour for 50% of total seats.

o    Financial support from Central/State governments, airport operators, and Viability Gap Funding (VGF).

o    Regional Connectivity Fund (RCF) established.

·    Previous Phases:

o    Phases 1-4 (2017-2019) targeted connecting underserved/unserved airports and expanding air connectivity to remote regions.

o    UDAN 5.0 was launched in 2019.
