Why in the news?
The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecasts a warmer summer due to El Nino continuation, raising concerns for heatwaves, with above-normal rainfall in March.
About El Nino Continuation and Heatwave Forecast:
- El Nino conditions are expected to persist until May, leading to a hotter summer in India, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
- More heatwave days anticipated in northeast peninsular India, including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, north interior Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Odisha.
- Northeast peninsular India is likely to experience heightened temperatures, raising concerns for potential heat-related issues.
