About the News

  • External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted that the report questioned the integrity of Indian court judgments and noted the U.S.’s own record in handling domestic hate crimes.
  • The report was described as a mix of imputations, misrepresentations, selective use of facts, reliance on biased sources, and a one-sided depiction of issues, including India’s Constitutional provisions and duly enacted laws.
  • S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken released the report, pointing out various countries, including India, for failing to protect the religious rights of minority groups and basic human rights.
  • The report, in its 69 pages on India, detailed alleged complicity between law enforcement and majoritarian groups and flagged issues like the campaign for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the drive for a “Hindu Rashtra.”
  • In response, Jaiswal mentioned law and order issues in the U.S., highlighting crimes against Indians and other minorities, including hate crimes, racial attacks, vandalization of places of worship, and mistreatment by law enforcement.
