Recently, Nepal signed a long-term agreement for the export of power to India.

- Nepal and India signed a long-term agreement for the export of 10,000 MW of power to India over the next decade.
- An MoU for cooperation in renewable energy was also inked.
- The agreements were signed during the 7th meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission.
- India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Nepal’s counterpart N. P. Saud jointly inaugurated three cross-border transmission lines.
- The agreements encompassed various aspects of Nepal-India relations, including trade, connectivity projects, defense, agriculture, tourism, and more.
- Virtual inaugurations were conducted for three cross-border transmission lines, with India’s assistance, namely 132 kV Raxaul-Parwanipur, 132 kV Kushaha-Kataiya, and New Nautanwa-Mainahiya lines.
Nepal and India’s cooperation in the power sector and energy.
- India has played a vital role in constructing several hydroelectric projects in Nepal, including Pokhara (1 MW), Trisuli (21 MW), Western Gandak (15 MW), Devighat (14.1 MW), and more.
- The first high-capacity 400 kV cross-border power transmission line from Muzaffarpur (India) to Dhalkebar (Nepal) was successfully completed in 2016 with Indian funding.
- In 2017, two additional 132 kV cross-border transmission lines, connecting Kataiya (India) to Kusaha (Nepal) and Raxaul (India) to Parwanipur (Nepal), were completed with grant assistance from the Government of India.
- South Asia’s inaugural cross-border petroleum products pipeline, funded and constructed by the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., was inaugurated. This pipeline links Motihari in India to Amlekhgunj in Nepal.
