INDIA : FIRST SELF-BUILT POLLUTION CONTROL VESSEL ‘SAMUDRA PRATAP’ TO COMBAT POLLUTION IN INDIA’S WATERWAYS LAUNCHED

India’s first Pollution Control Vessel for the Indian Coast Guard making a massive contribution to Atma Nirbhar Bharat was launched by Goa Shipyard Limited inaugurated by Samudra Pratap.

About the Launch of Samudra Pratap:

  • The indigenous Pollution Control Vessel (PCV) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) , Christened as ‘Samudra Pratap ‘was commissioned at Goa on 29th August 2024.
  • The vessel was constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) and was launched by Smt Neeta Seth in the presence of Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth.
  • Samudra Pratap was intended to be used for controlling oil spills along the coastline of India which is a very important advance in naval architecture of this country.

Aatmanirbhar Bharat in Defence Production:

  • Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Sanjay Seth laid importance on the country achieving Aatmanirbhar in defence production and targeting exporting Defence products.
  • He emphasised on India’s accomplishment of attaining the position of the fifth largest economy in the world in terms of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) under the leadership of the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
  • Minister also added that India has now become almost aero marine self-sufficient in defence ship building activities and has even started exporting ships to other countries.
