Partnership Overview:

  • MoU Signing: On August 26, 2024, ICAR-CIFE and VAMNICOM signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Mumbai to beautify cooperative management in fisheries.
  • Objective: This collaboration aims to boost generation integration and promote fee addition in fishery cooperatives, contributing to the imaginative and prescient of establishing 2 lakh PACS, Dairy, and Fishery Cooperatives in each Panchayat.

Institutional Details:

  • ICAR-CIFE: Central Institute of Fisheries Education, set up in 1961, is a main college in fisheries education and research.
  • VAMNICOM: Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management, hooked up in 1964, focuses on education and studies in cooperative management for numerous sectors which includes fisheries.
Key Initiatives Related to Fisheries Sector:

  • Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY): Aimed at improving fish manufacturing and productivity, enhancing infrastructure, and increasing the profits of fishers and fish farmers thru sustainable practices.
  • Palk Bay Scheme: Focuses at the development of fisheries within the Palk Bay vicinity, including infrastructure enhancements and capacity constructing to reinforce fishery sources and livelihoods.
  • Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF): Provides financial assistance for developing infrastructure for fisheries and aquaculture, along with bloodless storage, processing centers, and other key assets.
