Why in the news?
- The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) released the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Enterprises ( ASUSE) for 2022-23.
- Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Maharashtra had the highest share of informal sector enterprises in both rural and urban areas

Key Findings of the Survey:
- The survey highlighted the employment capacity of the informal sector, with over 10.96 crore workers employed in 2022-23.
- Urban workers numbered 5.72 crore, while rural workers stood at 5.24 crore.
- In comparison, 9.79 crore workers were employed in 2021-22, with 5.03 crore in urban areas and 4.76 crore in rural areas.
What is an Incorporated Entity?
An incorporated entity, such as a limited liability partnership, joint venture, or wholly-owned subsidiary, is a separate legal entity with a more structured setup compared to unincorporated enterprises.

Basis and Publication Conceptualized by NSSO, published by National Statistics Office, MoSPI. Conducted annually since 2019-20; previously every five years. Objective Provides data on economic and operational characteristics of enterprises in manufacturing, trade, and other services (excluding construction).
