Why in the News?

  • ASHA and anganwadi workers will now receive health cover under Ayushman Bharat, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility for grassroots health workers.
  • The Interim Budget increases the allocation to the Health Ministry to ₹90,658.63 crore, with additional funding for the Ayush Ministry.

Health Sector Enhancements:

  • The U-WIN platform for managing immunization and intensified efforts of Mission Indradhanush will be rolled out swiftly nationwide.
  • Initiatives include utilizing hospital infrastructure for medical education, encouraging Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination for girls, and integrating maternity and childcare schemes.

Launched in 2005-06 under the National Rural Health Mission, ASHA initially operated in rural areas.

Later extended to urban settings with the introduction of the National Urban Health Mission in 2013.

Considered the largest community health worker program globally, enabling community participation in health.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana

World’s largest government-funded health insurance scheme, launched in February 2018.

Offers ₹5 lakh per family for secondary and tertiary care, covering surgeries, medical treatments, and diagnostics.

U-WIN Platform:

Modeled after the successful Co-WIN platform, U-WIN digitizes India’s Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).

Launched as a pilot in two districts of each state and Union Territory.

Serves as a centralized registry for routine vaccinations, tracking vaccination status, delivery outcomes, and planning immunization sessions.
