Gurnards: New fish species discovered in Bengal’s Digha harbor

News: Researchers at the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) have made an intriguing discovery: Gurnards are a new species of orange-colored deep-water marine fish.

 

This amazing discovery was made in West Bengal, off the shore of Digha Mohana.

Sea Robins or Gurnards

  • The recently discovered species is a member of the Triglidae family, which is also known as sea robins or gurnards.
  • Known as Pterygotrigla intermedica, this species differs from its relatives, including Pterygotrigla hemisticta, in that it possesses unique features.
  • This species is the fourth one from the Pterygotrigla genus to be documented in India.
  • With 178 species in all, this family exhibits global diversity, highlighting the importance of this discovery.  

PM Modi distributes about 51 thousand appointment letters to newly inducted recruits.

News: Through video conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given over 51,000 appointment letters to recently hired employees as part of the Rozgar Mela. 

  • The prime minister announced that appointment letters for multiple female recruits were sent out today.
  • There were 46 venues for the Rozgar Mela around the nation. The government will welcome the new hires, who were chosen from all around the nation, in a number of ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Defence, Atomic Energy, Revenue, Department of Posts, and Higher Education.
  • The role of the Rozgar Mela is a step towards the Prime Minister’s promise to give employment creation first priority. News: The two-day India Smart Cities Conclave 2023 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh began this morning with the opening of an exhibition including award-winning smart city initiatives under the ISAC 2022 by Union Minister of State for Urban Development and Housing Kaushal Kishore.

  • Speaking at the event, the Minister stated that the nation’s cities and rural areas are being transformed by the government. The government, he said, is also aiming to make the nation Swachh and Swasth.
  • The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is in charge of organising the Conclave. Tomorrow, President Droupadi Murmu will present the winners of the India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC) 2022, which is in its fourth iteration.
  • Participating in the conclave are all 100 smart cities, who, by being at the vanguard of urban innovation, are driving a paradigm shift in the practice of city development.
