About the News:
- Removal of NTA Director-General: Subodh Kumar Singh was removed as Director-General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) due to alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET-UG and other exams.
- Postponement of NEET-PG: The Health Ministry postponed the NEET-PG exam as a precautionary measure hours before it was scheduled.
- CBI Probe: The Education Ministry announced a CBI investigation into the NEET-UG cheating allegations, in response to demands from students and the Opposition.
- Public Examination Act: The Centre referred to the newly enacted Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, promising strict action against guilty individuals and organizations.
- Expert Committee Formation: A seven-member expert committee chaired by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan was formed to recommend reforms for the NTA and its processes.
- Focus Areas for Reform: The committee will focus on the NTA’s structure, examination processes, and data security protocols, with a report due in two months.
