Why in the News?

  • The Centre initiates a survey and registrations for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) beneficiaries among 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups across 18 states and Union Territories.

About the Recent Developments under (PMAY-G):

  • The Ministry of Rural Development has modified the Aawas+ app for online beneficiary identification under the rural housing scheme.
  • Survey underway in 15 states, covering approximately 28,000 households, with the first instalment targeted for release by mid-January.
  • The unit cost for PVTGs increased to Rs 2 lakh, compared to Rs 1.2 lakh in plain areas and Rs 1.3 lakh in hilly regions.
  • PMAY-G beneficiaries can also avail Rs 12,500 for toilet construction and 90 days of work under NREGS, totaling benefits up to Rs 2.39 lakh.
About Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Mahabhiyan (PM JANMAN)

·   Aim : PM JANMAN aims to build 4.9 lakh houses for PVTGs, supplementing the existing PMAY-G target of 2.95 crore houses.

·   Coverage: Targets 75 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) across 18 states and union territories, spanning 22,544 villages in 220 districts, with an estimated 28 lakh people from these identified tribes.
